White Sox Take Another Win From The Brewers

A's Get Revenge And Sweep The Double-Header

In week 13, the White Sox played a double header against the A's.  In game one, the A's jumped out early with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first.  The White Sox got one run back in the top of the second after a leadoff walk.  A few batters later Phil singled home the first run of the game for the Sox.  The Sox went a head in the top of the 4th.  With two outs, Corey hit a double to center field, and after two walks, Tony singled home two runs to give the Sox a 3-2 lead.  The A's marched right back in the bottom of the fourth with three runs of their own.  In the top of the sixth, the Sox were down 6-3 when, after Devon and Ronnie got on base, Rich singled home two runs to cut the deficit to 6-5.  That was as close as it got as the A's got three more in the bottom half of the inning and going on to a 9-6 win.

Stars of the game:

Rich Tate, who was 1-1 with two walks and two RBI's.

Tony Hernandez, who was 1-3 with two RBI's and a SB.

Phil Mackey, who was 1-3 with an RBI and a SB. 

In game two, the Sox could not garner much offense against veteran A's pitcher Pete Jordan, who held the Sox to a season low five hits and no walks over seven innings.  The A's scored a single run in the bottom of the first, and that held up for a 1-0 loss.  Ron pitched 6 solid innings, allowing seven singles, while striking out two and walking no one.

Ron Mitchell, who pitched six innings of one run ball, striking out two and walking none.

Aric Graham, who was 2-2.

The Sox are now 9-3-1, in first place, a half game ahead of the A's 9-4.  The Sox play the Brewers next Sunday. With a win and a Diamondbacks loss, the Sox will secure a first round bye in the playoffs. 

White Sox Win Another Battle With The Astros!

Week 12 - White Sox 9 - Astros 8

Week 12 saw the Sox taking on the Astros, who in the previous game tied against us 10-10.  The Astros went ahead early, scoring a single run in the top of the 2nd.  The Sox battled back with a run in the bottom of the second, and three more in the bottom of the third.  In his first start of the season, Mike Howarth pitched three strong innings, leaving in the fourth with a 6-2 lead.  The Sox were able to pitch out of trouble in the fourth, leaving two runners stranded in scoring position.  In the top of the 6th, the Astros were able to take the lead off Corey P with 6 consecutive singles, eventually moving ahead 7-6.

Thanks to some clutch pitching from Ronnie M, the game remained tied until the bottom of the 8th, when Corey P singled to right, scoring Ronnie from second to take a 8-7 lead.

However, the Astros were able to tie the game in the top of the ninth, after a leadoff double.  Two batters later, they scored the tying run to make it 8-8.

In the bottom of the 10th, the Sox were able to load the bases, after singles by Steve G, Ronnie and Mike H.  With one out, Corey P came up and delivered a single over the right fielder's head to score the winning run.  The Sox were able to walk off with a 9-8 win and take the season series against the Astros 2-0-1.

The game stars were:

Mike H, who was 3-5, and pitched three plus strong innings.

Ronnie M, who was 5-6 with 2 runs and 2 SB, and got the win with 4 plus innings of one hit relief.

Corey P, who was 2-5 with 2 RBIs, including the game winner in the bottom of the 10th.

Jay D, who was 1-3 with 3 RBIs.

And Steve G, who was 1-5, with a leadoff single in the bottom of the 10th that turned out to be the winning run.

The Sox remain in first place, a position they have held all season, at 9-1-1.  The Diamondbacks are second at 8-3.  With one more win or an A's loss, the White Sox will secure a first round bye for the playoffs.

The Sox play a double header next Sunday against the 6-4 A's.
